Ezra WOOD
Ezra WOOD family from Ontario County New York
via Woodstock Vermont. Ezra WOOD came to Kentucky as part of the
Grainger Land deal. There were several other families that came,
BURBA, RIDER and others. Below I will list how my WOOD line
connects to the Ezra WOOD family. If anyone has any data
supporting or otherwise, please send an e-mail.
The Ezra WOOD family is very confusing. If the
father of Ezra WOOD that married Eunice Stratton died in Ontario
County New York then there looks to be two more Ezra WOODs from
the same family because there are two Ezra WOOD's listed on the
1850 Hardin County Southern District 02.
VERMONT: In 1790 the town of Woodstock
which is in Windsor county list the following WOOD families.
Benjamin, Ezra, Joshua, Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Nathan and
William WOOD.

My Wood family connection to Ezra Wood
1) My great grandfather's oldest brother
was Jewett H. WOOD. Jewett married
Martha Morgan .
Martha was the daughter of Henry Clinton Morgan and Emily
WOOD. Emily was the daughter of Ezra
WOOD.
2) James W. WOOD
my gg grandfather married Sarah E. RIDER on
12-June-1859 (marriage bond Larue Co KY courthouse)
They were married at Ezra WOOD 's place in
Hardin County KY (Ed Benningfield book via S. Loose Thanks Mr.
Loose!)
3) Sarah E RIDER's parents were
Benjamin Rider and Sarah BURBA
both from New York. (1850 Hardin Co Ky census)
They were probably from Ontario County which is the same
county that Ezra WOOD was from.
Also on the 1850 Hardin County census three dwellings below
the RIDER family is Ezra WOOD Jr family, Ezra 37 years old
born in New York
wife Martha 35 years old also born in New York.
4) The marriage bond for James WOOD and Sarah E
RIDER has a signature of S. H.
FLANDERS.
I believe this to be Solomon Hatch
FLANDERS. Solomon was the son in law of
Ezra WOOD. (Thanks Addie)
Solomon and Trefina FLANDERS are listed on the 1850 Hardin
Co KY census. Solomon age 26, Trefina age 23
daughter Melissa A. age 3 all born in KY.
5) The FLANDERS name is
interesting in that my ggg grandfather was said to have been John
Hodgen Flanders WOOD.
This would most likely be a surname.
6) On the 1850 Hardin Co KY census, there is a James
listed with Ezra Wood Sr. His age is 15 which is a match for the
birth date of James WOOD, 1835.
On final note, on the 1810 Ontario Co New York list Ezra WOOD and
just below Ezra list JNO WOOD. Could JNO be our John Hodgen
Flanders WOOD?
